Un-links
Hey, get over it. I never
promised you nice. These links are DEAD, dead and
buried, I tell you.Starving
Students Movers
Apparently there are many stories
and reports about them on the web. I haven't
bothered to read them, but my own experience is
that they made moving an absolute nightmare -and
moving is so hard anyway! They cancelled 2 times,
and never even told me, 2 days in a row! ! The
last day they finally came, complained about how
many darling things I had, and forgot/ran out of
packing foam and all the important stuff to
protect my antiques - so they kept the clock
running while one of the boys ran to the store to
look for more packing material - and came back
empty-handed. So my antique painted furniture
ended up just dumped in the van, with scratches
and nicks everywhere.
It took them 20 minutes (on the clock) to drive 5
minutes. They took my fridge door off to get it
in my new place, and reassembled it wrongly. They
offerred me $30 for all the damage, then ignored
my follow-up claim. Starving Students
totally sucks. And damn it, I won't take them off
the Un-links page for anything... besides money.

David
Goldstein and John Hellen
What a pair of rascals!
They buy up scores of apartment buildings in LA.
Mostly on the west side, but mine was the first
they bought in Los Feliz, when it was getting
hot. They evict everyone, slap up some odd
decorative devices, call it "art deco",
and raise the rent by 4 times.
Dave Goldstein has been mentioned in the Los
Angeles Times and City Beat, for his charming
habit of asking for written essays on why someone
wants to move into his buildings. (hmm, why would
he need written ENGLISH??) Oddly enough, he
doesn't ask for essays on why someone doesn't
want to move OUT of their home. No, the current
tenants are asked to leave. Urged to leave.
Forced to leave, or strange things happen to
them...
Of course, dear readers, you know that I put up a
good fight to stay in my home - even after they
broke into my apartment, turned off the water,
illegally built driveways on the neighboring
properties on either side, threatened that I had
lead paint poisoning, and warned that
a hole would open in my floor and that I would
fall through. Yes, it's all documented, and Rent
Control said they would never forget these guys.
Yet I did have to move, and they're still around,
somewhere...maybe even looking at YOUR home next.
Never never go to their link. |

City
of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works
These are the people who
trim our trees every couple of years. They farm
out the work to subcontractors, who hire
undocumented, unskilled cheap labor to do a
horrible job on trees everywhere in LA. Golden
Bear is one of their favorite companies.
Coincidentally, Golden Bear has a side business
selling firewood. Is it any wonder the trees look
like crap afterwards?
Most trees never need to be trimmed at all! Every
time a tree is trimmed, it lets bacteria and bugs
into the open wound (just ask Griffith Park, who
has lost tens of thousands of trees to the
I-forget-its-name red beetle) and has less big
branches, so that each single branch has to hold
more weight and leaves than it is supposed to,
and is more likely to break than it was before.
Not to mention pollution, beauty, wildlife, and
other stuff like that.
But it's make-work, and Los Angeles knows all
about THAT, doesn't it? Never ever link to them. |

SUVs or 4Wheel Drives and
everyone who drives them.
Everyone seems to either
hate them or hate them, nothing in between. I'm
with them. Never link to them,
go there, or wave to them. |
